Buggy Get Well

We are leaving in forty minutes and I just remembered I will have no way to get this blog post up while on the road.  Okay for the SCS Flybabies blog challenge “A GET WELL CARD”

It was so fun to make this.  the bug is a coffee bean from Judith stamps.  I hand drew the legs and antennae.  Crystal effects the jar and It’s good to go.   Mollymoo, I almost sent this out to you after reading about your “ahem” indelicate action the other day.  Open-mouthed smile  IMG_0354

i love to digi scrap

febsnow

It’s so much fun to digi scrap.  So many things to do without all the mess.  It’s fun playing with the different settings in Creative Memories Storybook.  I gave texture to the pine needles and made the snow for the interstate sign.  I liked the template from CM but not the papers so I changed them out with the click of the mouse and there we have it.  Two pages finished in short order.  Satisfaction without all the pain.  The background papers and pine needles were freebies but I don’t remember where I got them.  Sad smile  whoever you are, thank you for your freebie.

A card just because….

Sometimes you have to make a card just because….not for any special reason and then that moment happens when someone you know needs this card and voila` it’s already made.   Such was this card.  I had a sketch from GKD that I wanted to use, it’s an old one from 2011.  I like keeping my sketches in a file and then just grabbing one and see what I can do with it.

I’ve challenged myself to do more mixing of designer papers on my cards.  It’s not an easy thing for me.   But when it works, I have a great sense of creativity.  Now I have to analyze “why” it works.   So here’s my thoughts.  The colors all blend is the most obvious.  Then, the chevron pattern embossed into the green carries the points of the plaid which almost has a chevron look in the darker green colors.  Next, the ribbon, it carries the pink of the flowers in the stamped image and the bike.  Then it has white circles stamped on it which carries the white circle the image is stamped on and the bicycle tires.  And the paper buttons from Creative Memories?  They are circular too and I used scraps of ribbon to tie all the colors together.   and so we have a “just because” card.    I’m smiling!   The sentiment is from Mark’s Finest Papers a Heinrich Company.  “pussy willows 2011”  Because it is an acrylic stamp I was able to bend it into a circular shape and add a bit of movement to the otherwise kind of life-less image.  Yep, some stamps, even though I like them, look kind of “dead” when stamped.

Take it up a notch

It was fun to make this anniversary card for Bill and Sylvia.  Fifty years together.  They have been a part of our lives for a long time.  Sylvia was pregnant with Danny when I was pregnant with Troy and that’s always a bit of bonding between two women.  The first card is fine and I was very satisfied with how it turned out, however when I took a photo of it and looked at it on the camera, I thought, hmmmm…it could use a bit of ribbon.  This pretty gold striped piece was in my scraps and using my bow easy, this perfect little bow ended up just bringing it up a notch and gave it a finishing touch.

Surprise ending

This very kewl SimonSaysStamp sketch was on my desk and I wanted a card for my oldest brother.  SIXTY SIX this year. Let’s talk retirement!  I was thinking patriotic, flags, etc.  but once I made the sun, it just kind of flowed in a different direction.  The piece of darker green is actually a pic of the Smokey Mountains.  a tiny piece left of the DP I picked up there years ago.  (my brother lives in TN and went to the Smokies for their honeymoon.)

It took all of 22 minutes to make this card.  Now I am bummed b/c when I photo it it is not TRUE color.  This is a bluish green stampin up color, one of there ones they come out with for a short time and then retire it.  It just looks so cool all done up in for real life!  The color changes to too blue when photographed.  But hey, I like it, he’ll like it and we’ll all be happy and I got to use that very kewl sketch from SimonSaysStamp. hmmm after posting it the color don’t look so bad after all!   (yes, I know I said “don’t) but the red isn’t this red.  ha ha.

Inspiration Strikes

DSC03543

So I had these scraps, that little heart flower image was just calling me.  All the other pieces were laying there on the table except the pink and the cardstock itself.  Just started putting them on the blue sqaure and voi`la I had a card. the rest of it just fell together.  I just received that new washi tape in the mail from Pick Your Plum.  I do like the effect of paper piercing too and often forget how it finishes a card.  I pierced a bit between the corner punch and the ribbon.  I folded the little flag piece for a bit of dimension.  After thought : I would have sponged the edges of the blue square but since it was already all together I just added the dots.  Wish I had the scraps to make another.  Oh well, on to other creations.  Open-mouthed smile  Making cards makes me happy.  This one is for Jack and Eloise Ellerbrocks 64th wedding anniversary, yesterday! March 12, 1949.

As I look at other card makers I am getting more confidence about mixing patterns.  The washi tape picks up the colors in the corner punch and so it works.
