Lots and lots of birthdays

Oh my word, May, kind of snuck up on me.  I went to FaceBook to scan my list of birthdays and I had over 20 birthdays, thank yous, and grad cards to make and get in the mail.  Some I pulled from my stash.  Some i just made real quick.  Using another new birthday gift embossing folder I threw these fellows on real quick like.  I tried to do partial die cutting but that is always a trick for me and i cut the pieces off that i wanted to hang over and i just used a glue stick and adhered them.  It’s easier. This goes to my Stampin’ Up rep.  Quick and Easy, she’s all about that.

More dots

It was so fun to receive stamping supplies for birthday gifts!  Oh yeah, I have the coolest friends.  This sizzix embossing folder was one of the gifts.  You know how it is when you get a new embossing folder, you just have to try it out to see how it’s going to look on paper.  I thought this little pre-made tag like piece would work on here.  I’ve been trying to use that piece for a couple of years now.  I added in a dotted sun to fill in the space between the embossing and the tag.  The wonky cut die is from MFT.  It’s hard to photograph that wonky die cut.  it always looks “off”.

Wednesday Dots Challenge at Simon

I see spots

Simon Wednesday challenge is all about dots today.  I used their Bokeh stencils to create this card out of scraps.  I had die cut the pink paper for another project and it was such a pretty scrap i decided to add another brown scrap behind it.  The other things were just stiting on my desk waiting to be used.  I winked the heart and flower centers for a bit of sparkle.  Spun Sugar distress inks were stenciled on the light gray paper.  The brown strip is the same paper that backs the pink and is peeking through the THANKS cut out.

bday fun

I received so much fun stuff for my birthday.  One of the things was a pretty Sizzix embossing folder.  I don’t know the name of it but the entire top part is beautiful big flowers.  I embossed onto my new designer paper I got from SU.  Next I used white pigment ink and dabbed it over the embossing.  It doesn’t show up so well on here but it is kind of a cool look.  It’s a challenge for me to use dark designer paper but i was pleased with how this card turned out.  The Sending die is cut and stacked three times from Simon Says.  All the cardstock is from my SU order.  My birthday gift to me.

it’s spring time for fancy flowers

well, it’s spring for a lot of people and i guess it is here too.  it’s still pretty cold though and i’m covering the few flowers i planted for the last three nights.  it was 26 degrees when i got up this morning. 

Anyway, i thought it was time to play with my Fancy Flowers from MFT, you know, to kind of encourage spring to get here.

I used the Wednesday Sketch Challenge and I think I’ll make some more cards with this sketch.  I really like it.  I used MFT Wonky stitched rectangle stack for my frame but it didn’t show up on that paper at all.  Just barely IRL.  That gold striped Washi tape from SU is a recent purchase and I just love it with the gold pigment ink i used for the banner strip.  It took a while to dig out my StazOn ink to stamp a teeny sentiment on the Washi tape and looks so cute in real life.  Distress inks for coloring.

Metal Stencil

This was an interesting card to make.  I really wanted to make a shaker card with that big Hello die but for some reason my brain wouldn’t wrap around that.  I decided to grab one of my metal stencils that you use a stylus and a light with….(but that’s so much work) I ran it through the big shot and i was so impressed with the beautiful impression it gave.  I hand trimmed around the edge that it left and mounted the piece onto a pre-embossed piece that was sent by a friend.  For this card the smaller top piece, the white piece, lifts up.  You can see that by the top edge.  I just folded over the top piece and glued it to the white piece.  Tim Holtz Ranger sentiment stickers are added.

Distress Crayons

Sometimes cards i make make me say WOW!  This is one of them.  I am so happy with how this experiment turned out.  I  smooshed my distress crayons around on water color paper (the rough side) and then spritzed with water and blended a bit with my finger.  Then I took a stencil and used a babywipe through the stencil.  With another stencil i used the crayon direct  onto the stencil and it left the cool little raised edges. (the pink dots)  For the MFT border die I used my Big Shot and and a silicone pad and embossed the edge instead of cutting it.  Before doing that i inked the edges of the cutting side with a green ink to help the piercing stand out.  Another stencil for the sun rays.  All the stencils were Tim Holtz.  I added a Wink Of Stella water colored butterfly and some clear sequins.  oooo, ahhhh, it’s just like fireworks.

My SIL

My sweet Sister-in-law takes care of my mother.  My mom would not win a prize for being the most pleasant person in the world but my sweet Sister-in-law would.  She is a gem.  They live in Alabama and I appreciate the care she gives to my mother.  Thought she would appreciate a little surprise thank you note for all she does.  Pre-embossed card from Michael’s clearance rack, added flowered paper tape from Creative Memories and a blue sticker stripe.   The embossed image is sponged with a bit of Distress Inks.  A faux stitched banner completes it.

Embossing fun

Poking around on Pinterest the other day I found a tutorial that showed how to use your little square embossing folders without leaving a square mark around them when embossed.  It was so clever i had to try it out.  Here’s a link if you want to learn also.

The ballon on the puppy looks paper pieced but i just added some white dots with my gel pen to add some interest and tie in that back ground paper from My Mind’s Eye.

Wedding

One of my favorite people is getting married in May.  It will be her second time being married.  One of my favorite nephews is getting married and it will be his second time getting married.  They are marrying each other, for the second time!  Yep, they have been divorced for fifteen years and they have decided that they still love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together loving on the children they have created and also on their ten year old grand child. We are all very excited.  I used some dollar tree stamps to heat emboss with a glittery white onto a very faintly grey cardstock.  I used MFT blueprints to cut the edges of that piece.  I embossed the trio of wedding images (all on one very old PSX stamp) with a shiny silver and mounted all on the pretty paper by Heidi Grace which is also embossed.  Simple and Done.

Graduation is coming

Here’s one that came together with a sketch challenge from MFT.  I turned the sketch on it’s side.  It’s past time for joining in their challenge from two weeks ago but i loved the sketch.  The stamp is from Unity and is a NBUS element.  Thought it would make a good grad card.

Wild flowers

I’ve been thinking of this technique for quite awhile, to fussy cut flowers and make them the border.  Then this past week I saw videos by Kristina Werner and Vicky P where they totally put this technique into action.   Thought I best jump on the trend wagon and post mine too.  Masked flower border stamps by Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous.  Distress no line water color.  Die Cut Sentiment from Spellbinders and gold Nuovo drops.  I love those Nuovo’s.  The background paper is by Heidi Grace

H & I Christmas fun

ABC Christmas challenge got away from me last month since we spent most of the month in Puerto Rico.  I played catch up today.  Last month was E for Edge, F for Family, and G for Girls.  I got those covered with these three.

      

Next up is H for home and I for informal.  and now i am happily all caught up.

One stamp set, three cards.  This stamp set from Taylored Expressions is so cute.  I’m wondering if they have a die set that i need to purchase as i would like to die cut the boots instead of fussy cutting them all.    getting lazy. 

Anyway, Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge asks for showers or flowers.  I used the Raindrops plastic stencil from MFT and ran my tag through my Big Shot with it.  Love the subtle rain drops.

SSS-MFT-Taylored Expressions

I had so much fun with the MFT and SSS challenges yesterday i decided to make another card for both of them.  This card just fits the weather we are having.  Not complaining, it is at least SPRING at last.  Cold spring, but still spring, and my flowers are coming up nicely.    MFT die that i LOVE.  Hero Arts Rectangle dies, Not sure if the grass is MFT or Simon.  Taylored expressions sentiments, boots, and embossed flowers.

MFT’s Sketch Wednesday Challenge

twins turn two

since i have been gone for about a month from stamping i turned to SSS for inspiration on Wednesday.  They have a fun inspiration challenge for this weeks Wednesday Challenge.  I wanted to use these fun colors.  The plaid Perfect Plaids Petite 6x6 pack from Lawn Fawn worked great.  My next inspiration is MFT Wednesday Sketch challenge.  Always love the sketches.

 

Here’s what i came up with for the sweet little guys.  They love pictures of crabs and they pinch their little fingers together whenever we see one in a book.  I bought them a book from Alaska that has some king crabs in it.  How fun.

Altenew Roses

After watching the video on how to correctly use these stamps i was so much more pleased with how they turned out.  I loave the beautiful simplicity of this rose.  I used a bit of distress inks on the bottom and left side as “foliage”  and then used my Ranger Spritzer with a dark green marker.  It needed a bit more glitz and i remembered these retired border dies from Sweet N Sassy and the perfect gold paper to create the border.  It is complete. 

NBUS

There’s a lot of NBUS in my stash since Christmas time.  I won this set of stamps and dies at the vendor show in November and haven’t had a chance to use them yet.  With all the flower dies going around i think this must be right on trend.

I had fun making this and it started with the SMILE that was a leftover part from the tag i made. I used some DP from the Paper Studio called Denim and Jeans.  I was also able to use my Bokeh dies from Simon, another NBUS item and i opened my gold Nuovo drops, more NBUS.  Maybe i will add some more flowers to this.  two more down towards the bottom.  We’ll see how i feel about that tomrrow.  Thanks for stopping by.  This may be my last post for a bit as we have a two week vacation coming up soon. I plan to take some images and my Peerless water color papers with me.  Sit in a cabana by the pool and color the day away.

Tag it

Just to be clear, this  picture is taken on a blue piece of cardstock.  It is not mounted onto the blue.  This was fun to make and play with a bit of collage items.  I used multi medium gel to adhere the tissue paper and crumpled cardstock directly to a white card base.  Next i made the tag after coloring the flowers with distress inks and doing no line coloring.  I love my MFT sentiment dies and i popped some pink behind this to give it some “pow”.  I added a punched tag circle and twisted my twine around a thin stylus to make the twine curly.  The butterflies were sitting on my desk waiting to be used and so I did.
