craaaaazy birds

I do so have fun with these crazy birds from Tim Holtz.  My sister-in-law starts her chemo treatments this week and I want to send her some cheerful cards through this time.  It was so fun to make this.  and all the love hearts.  The sentiment and hearts come from Simon’s exclusive set  Sending and Wishing.  The dies for this are fabulous too.  I used my new MFT rose die with overlay.  I used the overlay part to put some texture behind the bird.  I first used the bird die to cut out the negative space in the card stock.  I then laid the swirly die cut behind him and then did the inlay thing with the birdie himself.  I used crystal effects on his beak and the two small hearts.  He looked incomplete and after adding the hearts across the top it was perfect.  Can someone tell me how YOU get delicate pieces like this swirly flower to adhere to your cardstock without getting adhesive all over?  it doesn’t show in the picture but it’s there.  Sad smile  I used a fine tipped adhering bottle of crystal effects and tweezers but I still somehow moved it and the crystal effects smeared out from under the flower edges.   I wouldn’t sell a card with that on it but I don’t mind using it for family.   Any hints?

I am entering this into Simon Says Wednesday Challenge.

  1. Oh, this will make her smile, Janeen! You should send her a different bird each time, so that she has a matched set! Wishing her well, and thank you for sharing this with us at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge!

  2. What a fun card! Love the GREEN bird and that row of hearts. Speaking of green, try the magic green glue (Tombow). You put it on and it is white as it dries it goes clear. When it is starting to go clear then glue down your die. The glue isn't so runny at that point. I still manage to get some here and there, usually where I have to scoot the die cut over, but it is better than what I used to do (which was make a big fat mess).
