Masculine Grad

It’s not always easy to come up with masculine card ideas.  This one just happened.  Using Whimsey grad cap dies and MFT on line sentiments die, Simons pierced rectangle and that’s all it took.  Simple is good for the grads. IMG_8464 (800x586)

Grads Grads Grads

in need of some quick Grad cards I found something similar on pinterest and thought it so cute.  I couldn’t find a direct link to this but credit goes to graduation card:

mmmcrafts.blogspot.com.au

I hope she doesn’t mind me CASEing her work.  It just seemed to speak what high school graduation is all about for those seniors.  Smile  I used a DP that looks like cloudy sky for my back ground, left more of a margin and used a die from Whimsey for my grad cap.  I die cut the clouds with various dies from Simon and used a brand new “trail” stamp from the set Circle Friends from Simon, also.  It’s such a cute set.  Anyway, this would be fun with felt clouds too, wouldn’t it?

Here’s my version. IMG_8460I

I decided to go ahead and make four more of these with a little more thought.  I used Simon’s Sentiments on all these and on these next ones I used the felt clouds and Simons Pierced rectangle dies.  Love them all.

inside out

for this card i thought it would be pretty to put the sentiment that i usually reserve for the inside of the card on the outside.  Inside i will place a With Sympathy sentiment stamp.  Another simple card self explanatory, i think.

One little up factor is the corner punch from SU.  The punch stamps a large and small corner and i layered the small one on top of the large one.  I distressed it by rolling it into a teeny ball and flattening it.  and that’s how i got all my scraps used up.  Smile

more big rose

Well, i don’t know;  i also really really like this card.  maybe it’s safe to say i like this die from My Favorite Things.  For this one I used piece of vellum from my friend Princess Judy. I placed it on top of a very light grey cardstock and i love the look.  You can see the color of the grey in the edging that i used on the piece of designer paper. The little swirly thing is a hero arts stamp.  I faux stitched the little banner for the sentiment, the placement added just the right touch, i think.

Rose panel sympathy

This one is probably my favorite of all i created today.  I used MFT die cuts.  Cut both die cuts out of the same paper then used the pieces to place on top of the large rose.  I lightly sponged the top pieces with Victorian Velvet distress ink.  A sentiment from Mark’s Finest Papers was embossed to match the Sizzix die cut and embossed leaves.  Simple and pretty.

Wood Grain Sympathy

Using two little strips of scraps I pulled this together for a nice balanced look.  Mark’s Finest Papers retired set was stamped on the dark green panel and embossed in two different powders.  I first sprinkled some Ranger Moss Green on the leaves (kind of) then went back and added the Blushing Bride from SU and heat embossed.  The banner is from Spell Binders, still one of my favorite for Sympathe cards. The sentiment is from the same MFP set.  It looked kind of bare and I thought the wood grain back ground stamp from MFT would be perfect but when i stamped it in the blushing bride ink it looked very stark.  What to do???? I took white pigment ink on a sponge and sponged over the color lightening it up a bit. Added a bow and its good. IMG_8453 (710x800)

This card just speaks elegance to me with it’s soft colors and the vintage roses.  I like how the embossed border on the blushing bride SU cardstock has the soft edges of the roses.  The ribbon sentiment is a piece of Blue Prints 1 from MFT.  I embossed it in a matching embossing powder from SU called Blushing Bride.  The Viva pearls up the elegance factor and make this card.

brick walls and butterflies

This DP was waiting to be used.  Very simple card to make.  I rounded the corners of the card with my chomper and added a die cut from Prickley Pear dies.  Old SU sentiment stamp and sponged it a bit with Victorian Rose distress ink.  I added a butterfly from a very old Mark’s Finest Papers set and colored it in with distress inks.  A few Viva pearls in the cornder and she’s done.  I love this and the transition inference of the butterflies.

What a difference #464

This card came together easily.  I was using this pink background panel for so many of my cards today.  I am not generally a “pink” person nor much of a vintage paper person but these pretty papers from the Paper Studio in their vintage country style work so well with this pink that has a yellow tinge to it.  Bazzill from Michaels.  I had this strip of lacy die cut from a previous project that i decided didn’t work for that project.  After putting this together with the shadow stamp from MFT wild flowers I decided it looked a bit off center and chose to partically emboss around it.  I love the look.  It ties in the lacy strip and doesn’t distract from the card as a whole.

orange sympathy?

This scrap of designer paper had those little flowers in the bottom that had a corally center to them and i thought “why not”; and searched out this beautiful orange fizz color from MFT.  Sticking with the color palette of the DP i used a dark green linen look scrap for the base panel.  The orange was a bit stark for a sympathy card and it toned down nicely stamped with MFT wild flowers in a white pigment ink.  I added the stencil dots with a Tim Holtz stencil to tie in the white chain parts of the scrap of DP.  It looks pretty with the SU Olive Green  sentiment that i double stamped with my MISTI tool to get it nice and crisp.

Tone on Tone

Hero Arts has been showing Tone on Tone all month.  It was good inspiration.  For this card I used Whimsey dies for the stand alone sentiment.  Using MFT rose die i cut a piece of colored vellum to place behind the rose.  I sponged the cut out portion of the rose with Victorian Rose distress ink from Ranger.  A bit of scoring with my scor-buddy and I was it love with this card.

Staying Young

Simon’s Monday challenge is “make a wish”.  I would wish to always have a young outlook on life.  This reminds me of my 97 year old friend Edith that died last year.  She loved to stamp and shop and play games.  Young at heart.  This was one of her favorite sentiment stamps.  She stamped right up to her last few months of life.  Beautifully simple cards always layered and always with a ribbon. of some kind.

The details:  From Sherri Carroll’s Craftsy Mixed Media Class.  I made a panel from cardboard and used gesso and distress paint and crackle paint on the panel.  I added sequins and candies in a random pattern.  A light touch of gray card stock made an intersting panel for my sentiment die to set on.  The pierced panel if from Simon and the sentiment panel is from MFT.  I used a double corner punch for the photo holder look on the top left.  Mounted all on a piece of DP from the Paper Studio Country Road Collection.

Fuze Shaker Cards

My sweet/sister friend sent me a fuze tool for my birthday.  I never would have purchase one as i didn’t think i would get much use out of it.  It was so fun to open it and have the option to play with it.  I have never been a fan of shaker cards but i can see why this tool makes it more fun and easier.  I even broke down and purchased sever little packs of fillers from Simon Says.  Pretty Pink Posh by far has the prettiest little sequins.  I never knew there was a difference between the on sale 99 cent ones i get at Michaels and PPP.  But there is a HUGE difference in those teeny little sparkly things.

I made two shaker cards kind of following Sherry Carroll’s video.  Just search it on youtube. I must say, I really enjoyed sending them both in a gift box of goodies to two very good friends.

Sympathy cards ahead of time

is it proper to make sympathy cards ahead of time…we have three friends and relatives that are in hospice care in the waning days of their lives~~some of their relation come to me for their card purchases~ i now have to make cards when i have a day home.  Today i made ten cards, nine of them are sympathy cards.  i will be posting most of them separately in order to enter them into different challenges.  However, I will post them all together just so you can see the soothing day I had.

It was soothing to work on these and use four pieces of designer paper from Paper Studio’s Country Road collection.  the sheets are 4.5 x 6.5 inches.  I got NINE cards out of four small pieces of designer paper.  I used every single scrap.  Thanks for stopping by.

water painting flowers

My good friend Angie Bode directed me to the mixablility challenge on Splticoast Stampers.  There was a fun tutorial there about making your own water color flowers.  I decided it would be fast and easy to make a card this way and i needed something to jump start my mojo.  today was such a blah kind of day and i really didn’t get much accomplished except some much needed rest.   but it was my day home and i wanted to make a card, this was the perfect challenge.  I wanted to give the impression of a field of flowers.  I used a bit of stickles for some dimension and used Versafine in a sepia color to not over power the soft pastels.  I used a black marker around the edge of the watercolor paper.  i just liked it better with than with out.  I figured if i didn’t like it i could always trip it down.  Thanks for coming by.  I appreciate you.   I am entering this into Simon Says WEdnesday challenge to use flowers.

Grad cards again????

Every year we think there will be no graduations to attend this year….every year we are mistaken.  This year we have now received six different grad invites.  Yowsers, these kids all grow up so fast.  Is that what happens when you get into your sixties and beyond.  OMW  how do we keep up.  Okay, so this year i am starting cards for the kids as they come in.  But I am already four behind.  ha ha.

I love this one so much and it’s simple now that i have the Congrats letters stuck to my Fiskars Press and the mask made for my balloons.  I used MFT balloons die and cut a mask.  Sponged with distress inks through the mask and used a sentiment banner that i fussy cut from Hero Arts.  I sponged and colored the balloon i cut out for the mask and popped it up and added a fun piece of bakers twine to the banner, just for fun!!

just playing

I saw a post from Laura Bassen with  multi colored cards using an embossing folder from Spellbinders.  I have a couple of them, I must say they do emboss deeply.  I’m not much of one for rainbow looks on cards but i did like how the colors brought out the embossing so vividely and wanted to try it.  I used Tim Holtz distress inks in peacock feathers, marigold and picked raspberry.  I used MFT dies cut out four times and stacked them for the sentiment.  I think the balloon is MFT die  also.

Love is…

Playing along with My Favorite Things Sketch challenge MFTWSC278  I have long wanted a fun way to use these border embossing folders and I always seemed stumped.  This was a great sketch for these cute buttons.  I also used MFT’s Sew Nifty sentiment and a button from their Antique Button dies.  I do get a lot of play out of these buttons.  Glad i bought them.  For the sentiment panel i used a piece of magic tape in the center of the panel and then sponged around it and peeled it off.  I thought it looked a bit bare and decided to add some neutral gray embroidery thread that i pulled apart from the skein. Just the right finishing touch.

Color Challenge with MFT

Once again, i pulled from my scraps and that is the best way for me to do a color challenge.  BIG pieces of color overwhelm me.  Little pieces get the creative juices going.  I had fun with this.  Colored with copics.  IMG_8426 (800x709)

Stamping with friends

Joann, my friend who owns The Stamp Shoppe with her daughter, invited me and two other of our mutual friends for a day of stamping in the back room.  Oh my word, we had so much fun, laughing ,  stamping, coloring and eating and just catching up.  It was fun to have anything at our fingertips, matching papers were a cinch.  we used mostly scraps but just the volume available was so fun.

Here’s one of my favorite creations and the little Whipper Snapper mouseies i colored.  I am entering this froggy card into the Simon’s Wednesday challenge, Anythng Goes
